Annual SCOPE Summit Spurs Enthusiasm for Clinical Research

Strategic Development Director

Each year, the pharma and biotech industries' top thinkers migrate to Florida for the annual Summit for Clinical Operations Executives (SCOPE) Conference. Held in sunny Miami, this year was the 9th annual event; and judging from increased turnout this year, it was a smashing success.

MMG is a proud sponsor of this event, and this annual pilgrimage is a great opportunity for us to reconnect with our fellow industry colleagues and hear about the latest developments, innovations, and the freshest ideas surrounding the world of clinical research. This year was no different, as we were able to catch up with old friends and meet with and hear from industry thought leaders. We were also joined by one of our strategic partners, Parallel6, with whom we were jointly showcasing their Clinical Reach patient engagement platform.

The conference was kicked-off by the opening keynote speakers, Kelly McKee, Associate Director, Global Trial Optimization at Merck & Co., Inc. and Kenneth Getz, MBA, Director, Sponsored Research Programs, Tufts CSDD; Chairman, CISCRP. As expected, there were wonderful sessions and roundtable discussions that focused on ushering in novel approaches and case studies illustrating how innovative technologies and shifting mindsets can help push the evolvement of the drug development industry.

And while the conference tracks included exposure to a wide variety of topics including Site Activation, Project Management, Monitoring Data, Real World Evidence, Biomarker Trials, and Statistics, our main focus was on the Enrollment Planning and Patient Recruitment tracks that included topics such as Successful Recruitment Planning, Forecasting, and Central Campaign Management, as well as Patient Centric Approaches to Optimize Clinical Trial Participation. More specifically, the individual sessions focused on the following key concepts:

  • Predictive models for patient identification and data-driven recruitment
  • Implementing the new reality of diversity in trials
  • Enrollment planning optimization for targeted populations and point-of-care trials
  • Leveraging insight from study participants and clinical site staff in trial design and execution
  • Designing and implementing a patient-centric trial: social listening, access, and innovation
  • Leveraging insights from study participants and clinical site staff in trial design and execution
  • Integrating patient insights and data analytics to improve trial planning, clinical operations, investigator retention, and patient engagement

As always, it was great to attend SCOPE. Thank you to all of our friends, colleagues, and clients who stopped by to say hello and for showing your support and your enthusiasm for MMG. We look forward to seeing you again next year in Miami.
